Elementary Reconfiguration
At the January 10, 2012 School Committee meeting the decision was made to change the current configuration of the elementary schools to a new model beginning in the fall of 2012.  Eastford Road School will become an Early Childhood Education center housing all of the district's Pre-School and Kindergarten students along with a limited number of small classes designed for Readiness First Grade.  These Readiness First Grade classes will be designed as small, intervention intensive classes for students who complete Kindergarten but aren't quite ready for the rigor of fist grade either academically or socially.  Charlton Street and West Street Schools will become Grade 1 through 5 Elemenary Schools and we will be working on their attendance zones over the next few weeks to determine which students will be assigned to these schools based on their legal address.  We will post a time-line of the steps we will be taking to ensure a smooth transition to the new configuration on this web site next week.  It is an exciting time for our community and our children as we continue to make decisions that will allow our students to succeed and our families to become a welcome part of each school's learning community.

Tours of the New Middle/High School Project
Tours of the new Middle/High School will be given on every third Saturday beginning on June 18th. Paperwork must be completed at the Central Office prior to the tours. This is a first come, first serve basis and there will only be 20 people allowed at a time. If interested, please contact the Central Office at 508-764-5414.

Parent Camp 2011


On Sunday, October 2nd, the curriculum department hosted the district’s first annual Parent Camp.  The event was created because literacy data showed a high percentage of kindergarten students that struggled with letter recognition at the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year.

Parents were overwhelmingly thrilled with the event.  Parents said,

"This was an excellent program.  It was well planned.  My son had so much fun!  Hoping more parents will attend in the future."

“This was a great event.  Loved the ideas and the storyteller was fantastic."

"Please keep up the good work!"

School Building Project "Topping Off" Ceremony
The Southbridge Middle and High School "Topping Off" Ceremony was held on May 18, 2011. The last super structure beam was hoisted in place. An American flag and a Norwegian pine, a tradition of good luck, was affixed to the last beam which was painted white and signed by the visitors to the ceremony.
